This presentation will highlight the features that make Quebecois French unique within the Francophone world. Discussion will focus on aspects of Quebecois French history, phonology, and lexicon that have shaped the language into its present form.  Special attention will be given to language planners’ efforts to remove Anglicisms from the Quebecois French lexicon as part of a survival strategy implemented by a French speaking island located in an English-speaking ocean.
