Caribbean and Louisiana Culture in French Textbooks: A Critical Perspective

The presenter will discuss the findings of a study on the inclusion and presentation of Caribbean and Louisiana culture in French textbooks and a survey of teachers’ instructional practices. Using Content Analysis, Critical Discourse Analysis, and a Likert scale survey, the findings suggest there to be few instances of bias, exclusions, and distortions. Participants suggested that there are obvious instances of bias, exclusions, and distortions and thus try to address them in their teaching practices.
